Untill the 20th of May the exhibition Bambole Reborn in Arte (“The Dolls Reborn in Art”), a series of hand-made works by Laura Cosentino, a brilliant artist from Catania, is planned at the Biblioteche Riunite “Civica e A. Ursino Recupero”.
The exhibition, inaugurated on Saturday May 6, 2017, features a collection of dolls made through reborning, a delicate technique inspired by the hyperrealism, an artistic movement born in America between the late 1960s and early 1970s.
This practice, originated in the nineties and then spread all over the world, has also come to Italy about a decade ago. Any reborning-made doll is not considered to be a toy, but it is like a work of art. Each production is acknowledged with the “certificate of authenticity” issued by the reborn sculptor and the reborn artist.
The desire to set up this exhibition in Catania derives directly from Laura Cosentino, member of IIORA and Prototype Artist, awarded by the most important world institutions of this sector.
In the course of her activity, the artist performed some wood replicas of the most famous cartoons of the 80’s and 90’s, exhibiting them at the most famous fairs of Italian animation and comics, including the Lucca Comics and the Romics of Rome.
Bambole Reborn in Arte can be visited for free from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1.00 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 11.30 am. There are also three extraordinary openings: Friday, May 12, 2017, 9.00-18.00, Wednesday 17 May 2017, 9.00-18.00, and Friday 19th May 2017, 9.00-18.00.
